*Plaque holder must be in the car and request a distribution.
If you are found to be using someone else's plaque, who isn't in the car, you will be turned away.
Food distribution will begin as soon as food donations are done being processed, typically by 11:30am but may be later based on the amount of donations we receive.
Clients 60+ may visit the food closet beginning at 11:00am. You will either be let in the parking lot to wait or if the lot fills up, will receive a time to return later in the day when we have room in the lot. Clients are asked to return to the food closet at the time they are provided. If you return sooner, you may be turned away. If you return later, than the provided time, you may be turned away, based on lot capacity.
Our parking lot and registration closes when we reach maximum capacity for the day or 1:30pm, whichever comes first.
Please return the next distribution day to receive food.
Clients are not allowed to park and wait in our parking lot or any of the parking lots of our neighboring businesses. If you are found to be doing so you will be asked to leave.
The Sunrise Christian Food Ministry distributes a variety of fresh and canned food per household based on the donations we receive daily. Clients will register for a distribution and will receive verifcation of the total number of households currently in the car, picking up a distribution. Each car may receive food for a maximum of (4) households (this includes proxies).
Our food distribution is
available to residents of Sacramento County and the surrounding area once a
month. TEFAP/USDA nonperishable food bags are available as needed when you have
a food emergency, up to once daily when we are open.

How often can I receive a food assistance?
We offer a full distribution once a month for
individuals and families and TEFAP/USDA emergency food bags as needed (up to once a day). Our
homeless guests may request a ready-to-eat distribution as often as needed up
to and including once daily when we are open.
Need additional food assistance? We
can help connect you with other agencies in the area. Visit or call 211 to find resources
near you or visit Sacramento County Food
Bank website to see a list
of participating food agencies in the county. Our food closet is one of many in
Sacramento County that has various days and times available to meet the needs of
a variety of schedules. Click the links above to find the one that fits your
schedule best.
What if I have a unique situation?
We also have food available for those unhoused or unable to
cook or store food. Please let us know your situation and we'll do our best to
accommodate your needs.
What Should I Bring?
Should I bring photo identification?
Yes! Please bring a photo ID each time you come to the food
bank. A driver's license or state ID are best. We are also able to accept a
passport or any identification that contains your name and date of birth.
You may also access food benefits with a Food Access Card.
Your name must match the name of the client registered with
the Food Access Card. If you would like to pick up a food distribution for a
friend or family member, that lives in a separate household, please use this
form (EFA-15)
to become a proxy for this person.
You can also find the EFA-15 form translated in many
languages by visiting this website.
What if this is my first time?
Welcome! On your first visit we will have you fill out a short form. Along with
your photo ID, we require a piece of mail or a bill to verify your current
address.
Please bring similar verification for other family members as well; a doctor or
insurance bill/card, something from their school, or a current piece of mail
works best.
Anything else?
Distributions are provided once per month per household. A
household is considered anyone residing together that shares food, including
room and board homes. If your household shares a residence with another household,
please ask to set up a separate account for your household.
What Will I Receive?
What types of food do you distribute?
You will typically receive two-four bags of pantry items
(one-three bags from our donated items and a TEFAP/USDA bag), including fresh
produce, bread items, dairy and deli items, meat, and eggs when available. We
sometimes have other snacks and nonfood items to distribute as well! Some of the food you will receive is no longer able to be sold in the store because it is at or past it's best by date. Our volunteers screen every donation to ensure it meets our safe food handling guidelines and practices. If any item is found to be unsafe, regardless of the best by date, it is disposed of. Our ageny follows the federal guidelines for distributing donating food through our recovery program. These guidelines dictate how far past the best by date a food item is generally safe to eat. Again, even if an item is within it's best by date, if it is off colored, bloated, at an unsafe tempuature, torn or missing it's outer wrapper or dented to a point, it is disposed of and not distributed.
We understand that there is always the posibilty that something will slip by our volunteers and safe food handling priocedures. We also rely on you, the end consumer of the food, to use your best judgement before consuming anything you feel is unsafe.
If you would like to report back to our food closet with your concern please send an email with the following information to scfmoffice123@gmail.com or by text to 916-287-1358
-Your name
-Date of distribution
-Item of concern/decription of concern
-Photo of item
We will do our best to investigate the item you received and address your concerns. Please understand that our ageny recovers and distributes 1.5 million pounds of food to the community each year. Sometimes it won't be possible to trace where the item came from but we want to hear from you and address your concerns.
Where does your food come from?
All the food we distribute has been generously donated to
us from local retail partners and community supporters and changes daily. Some
days, we experience an abundance of items, and some days, our inventory may be
low. We do our best to spread the donations we receive to everyone who comes
through our distributions.
What if I experience food allergies or have dietary
restrictions?
We may have items available that are gluten-free,
vegetarian or vegan, or other alternative products. Please don't hesitate to
ask us!
I am in
the parking lot waiting, now what?
Once we
open we will do our best to let in as many cars and clients as possible. When our
lot fills we may temporarily need to close our lot until space opens up. When
this happens, you will be asked to return later that day or the next business
day. Clients that are parked in the lot will provide an ID to one of our
volunteers who will verify eligibility and register you for a distribution. Our
food distribution will begin as soon as donations are done being processed,
typically by 11:30am but may be later based on the amount of donations we
receive and the time it takes to process them.
The
parking lot and registration closes when we reach maximum capacity for the day
or 1:30pm, whichever comes first.
If the barricades are closed, we have closed for the
day.
Please
return the next distribution day to receive food.
