Spring 2019

Friends and Supporters of Sunrise Christian Food Ministry:

Great news-

Halleluiah the Lord has risen. We serve a living God. Jehovah-Jireh – The Lord will provide. Elohim – The all powerful creator.

Wonderful news–

We have COMPLETED our Walk-in Cooler/Freezer Project. We have persevered for 3 ½ years to bring the vision to completion. This started in the summer of 2015, when the Deacon Board at Fair Oaks Presbyterian Church asked what a dream was for us. We answered to convert a storage room into a cooler/freezer. Then God surprised us when they came back in the fall with a large check for 1/3 of the expected cost. At that time the vision was cast and we put together a team to see what to do.

From the beginning, we had Norm Covell – Project Manager, Doug Asche – Civil Engineer, Wes Witt – Architect, Bob Hart – Contractor, and Pat Green – Refrigeration Contractor, and Bob Mathews – Advent Church representative. As we investigated the feasibility of changing a room it became quite obvious the physical and engineering challenges would be over powering. It was asked why we were not building a stand-alone unit. Advent Church agreed the property outside the food closet could be used. So the vision grew. Plans were created and estimates of equipment made. Then it was discovered there was not enough electrical power coming into the site. So the next 18 months were spent working with SMUD and others on what to do.

We hired Neil McInsac of Capitol Electric and he came in and worked out all the issues with SMUD and began to rewire the building and load centers we needed for the Project. Electrical needs were completed in fall of 2017.

Then the next challenge was building the insulated foundations. Contractors were extremely busy with all the construction going on in northern California due to wild fires and other losses. We hired Dave Christman and Spanda Industries. They were able to come in the spring of 2018 and did all the excavating and pouring the special foundations.

Finally we were ready to order the actual box units. They were delivered to the site in December 2018. Erection, wiring, mechanical connections, and floor sealing was completed. And then, Praise the Lord, final inspection and approval was made in April 2019.

What a road we took to see the vision come to completion. God was in it all the time. He grew our ability to have humility, patience, trust and walk with Him. From what we thought was to be $20,000 – 30,000 and 4 months of time grew to over $100,000 and 3 ½ years. But God has worked miracle after miracle. Through the generosity of all of you, all of the costs (always increasing through the years) have been met. Each of the contractors have given discounts to the contracts. And all the concrete (excess of 34 yards) was donated by Teichert Ready Mix Company.

To celebrate the completion of the Project, we are having an Open House and Dedication on Saturday May 4, 2019. Hours will be from 10:30 – 12:00. All are invited to come and see what, where, why and how we do the ministry of your food closet.

Regular news-

2019 has continued being a year of growth of clients. We are now serving between 60 – 90 families every day. That represents about 240 individuals. We provide 5 days of food per person which is about 10 pounds. So every day we are handing out over 2400 pounds of food. Again, we are blessed to have all this provided. .

We continue needing volunteers. Volunteering can be 1 or 2 days a week, 1 or 2 days a month, or on a standby substitute list. You can even form your own team of folks and have your own day of the month. If interested and available stop on by the food closet to see what is needed

Our praises and prayers:

  • Praise for Gods abundant grace in supplying all the needs for the cooler/freezer project
  • Prayer for Open House / Dedication on 5/4/19
  • Praise for support and encouragement from all supporters
  • Pray for continued donations of product and finances
  • Pray for strength, health, and additional volunteers.

Thank you

May the God of Provision and Hope continue to richly bless you for your continued prayers and support.
